Health Truly Is Wealth
After three years of dodging colds, COVID, and the crud, I finally caught a good old-fashioned head cold. Now that I've bounced back, I've had some reflections...
As the fog of congestion lifted, I found myself flooded with gratitude post-cold. After having our most basic needs met like food, shelter, and safety, it's clear: health reigns supreme—it's the ultimate wealth. Though this little head cold pales in comparison to a serious health scare, struggling with daily tasks got me thinking: Good health is the most valuable possession an individual can have in their life. Nothing you work for or earn can be enjoyed unless you stay healthy. Health gives you the ability to enjoy all life has to offer and create experiences that are often more cherished than physical goods.1
Nothing brings things into focus like compromised health. After weeks, I can finally see, hear, walk, and think clearly again—and my appreciation for life's simplest pleasures is at an all-time high.
I’ve always loved that mountain, be it near or far, but my afternoon walks around the reservoir are even more special these days.
First tulip sighting!

Nothing beats the smell of freshly baked cookies right out of the oven - this recipe! I spent a good twenty minutes admiring the beauty of this freshly cut blood orange.
And the simple joy of getting dressed, in something other than sweatpants, and walking to the coffee shop is a real treat.
It really is the little things that matter most:
Watermelon Sky by Jieun Reiner.
This choreo by Sergio Reis.
Light Provisions recycled wax mystery scent.
Holy grail Everyday Oil refills.
The perfect beanie by Janessa Leoné – curly girls, it doesn’t slide off!
New Cordera drop at Shop Yucca.
Dusting off the old sketch pads and Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain
For the ultra curious here are a few of my favorite pre-cold rituals that helped me avoid “getting sick” since December of 2019. Friendly reminder, I am not a doctor or medical professional by any means. This is simply a little routine that has proven beneficial for me. Please consult your healthcare provider and see the disclaimer below***
At the first sniffle of an impending cold—throat tickle, slight aches, or chills—I reach for Pure Synergy Rapid Rescue. 3 tablets, 3 times a day—works wonders! I'm obsessed with this stuff and have been shouting its praises ever since my friend (who works for the company) introduced it to me. Thanks, Ange!"
Mustard Baths! Mustard baths! Mustard baths! Specifically Dr. Singha’s Mustard Bath. Whether it's those early signs of a cold or I’m just feeling run-down, I dive right in and follow Dr. Singha's directions to T:
Add 2-3 scoops to a very hot tub.
Relax and soak for 20 mins.
Next take a quick cold shower and dry off with a rough towel or dry brush.
Then bundle up in our warmest layers.
And go straight to bed…
Rest comes in many forms, and getting as much of it as possible - in whatever form it takes - is paramount to keep colds at bay. Your body, community, and the quiet moments of rest are a sanctuary of love. Recognize that rest is a profound act of resistance, and joy is the spark that fuels our defiance2. I’m done feeling guilt or shame for listening to my body when it’s telling me what it needs. If you need permission to rest, I highly recommend following The Nap Ministry
미역국 Miyeokguk instantly makes me feel revived and nourished whenever I feel those pre-cold symptoms. Not only does it taste and feel good—seaweed is packed with nutrients like iodine, potassium, and calcium that can boost the immune system and naturally fight colds and the flu. My grandmother’s recipe is my favorite, but if you don’t have a Halmeoni of your own, Maangchi’s got your back! Add a side of kimchi to each meal too ;) because you can’t spell Korean without Kimchi
What are your go to, pre-cold remedies?
I love learning about new and different cultural antidotes.
